A few days ago, I was talking with a preacher about "holiness." Many Christians don't understand what "holiness" means. Many Christians think holiness means being like Paul—never marrying! Christianity is different from Buddhism and Catholicism. Christian pastors can marry! Buddhist nuns and monks cannot marry! Catholic priests cannot marry, and Catholicism doesn't allow female preachers! Many people say that because Christianity is Protestant, it's not authentic at all. Is Christianity really not authentic? We should say that Catholicism is more of a continuation of the "teachings of Paul," while Christianity is called Protestant because it adheres more closely to the "teachings of Christ" (Mark 1:30). But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they told him of her. ~~Many preachers and Christians believe that the apostles of Christ did not marry. In fact, the 12 disciples of Jesus probably all married, but they didn't emphasize marriage and family life. Did Jesus teach us about marriage? Yes! Although Jesus didn't marry, he clearly taught us how married life should be. Marriage is like our relationship with God; both must remain holy! I think holiness is the part that most confuses people!
What is holiness? Holiness isn't like Catholicism and Buddhism, which reject marriage. Why do Catholicism and Buddhism reject marriage? Because they consider sex within marriage to be dirty and filthy! If sex within marriage were dirty and filthy, humanity would soon become extinct. Sexual intercourse creates a physical connection with another person. If one person has any disease, it can be transmitted through sex. If one person has evil thoughts, can that be transmitted through sex? The answer is: Yes! Physical illness and evil desires can be transmitted to another person through sex! Therefore, sexual intercourse involves more than just physical contact; it involves connection with the mind and soul! Catholicism and Buddhism have always held a closed-minded approach, rejecting sexual activity to avoid negative influences. Christianity has never been about detachment; it has always emphasized engaging with the world! Jesus always walked among people, just as Jehovah God always desired to dwell among the Israelites. If God is to dwell among us, the most important thing for us is to maintain holiness! Therefore, the Old Testament contains numerous teachings on holiness. What is holiness? Holiness is not rejection; it is concetrated. Why does Jehovah repeatedly emphasize that He is the one true God? Holiness does not mean avoiding marriage, nor does it mean rejecting sexual activity within marriage. Whenever Jehovah God required His people to purify themselves, He would instruct them to bathe, wash clothes, and abstain from sex for three to seven days. Bathing and washing clothes are physical cleansing, while abstaining from sex is spiritual cleansing. Only when both the body and the spirit are cleansed can one truly purify oneself and wait on God..
Why does Jehovah God repeatedly emphasize that He is holy and jealous? If a person fails to maintain purity, they will inevitably fall into sexual immorality! Modern people often overlook the calamities that sexual immorality brings! A sexually immoral person's spirit is undoubtedly in great disarray. A sexually immoral person will undoubtedly suffer from numerous illnesses. Sexual immorality brings us all kinds of ailments, not just physical ones, but also mental ones! Therefore, the harm of sexual immorality is often the most easily overlooked issue in our generation! The physical illnesses caused by sexual immorality are well understood. Why does sexual immorality bring us various mental illnesses and damage to our souls? We often focus on the physical sexually transmitted diseases that sexual immorality brings, but overlook the mental and spiritual illnesses it brings! If a man has two women, how many people does he have spiritual connections with? Those two women could have four or even five men. Those five men could have sexual contact with 20 women. With just two or three branches, we've already had over 100 abnormal spirits contaminated. Spiritual contamination affects our values and outlook on life, even our perspectives on marriage and love. We may think that we can indulge in physical desires without contracting STDs, and thus we may indulge in immoral thoughts. This is the true destructive factor in a person's life! The greatest harm of immorality isn't the STD; it's the damage we inflict on our spirits! Spiritual damage develops gradually, and we often struggle to detect it. So, why does Jehovah God require us to maintain holiness? Holiness means exclusiveness! If everyone rejected marriage to maintain holiness, humanity would have been extinct long ago! Maintaining holiness isn't rejecting marriage; it requires exclusiveness! Exclusiveness in marriage is as important as our faith in the one true Triune God!!
Our marriage partner is our life's helper, as the Bible teaches: (Genesis 2:24) Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. ~~The two become one flesh; only then can they be complete. The thinking of both men and women is relatively one-sided, but when men and women unite, their thinking becomes more complete. Therefore, only when man and woman unite can they become a complete flesh! If there are two men and one woman, this union cannot become one flesh either! Just as we worship the one true Triune God, only when we place our wholehearted trust in Him can He truly help us. If we worship too many gods, we won't know who is the true God or who is the false. I wonder: No woman likes a philandering man, and what God would bless philandering believers? Therefore, holiness is truly crucial! Only through holiness can we find our right partner! Only through holiness can we truly receive God's blessing!!
