(Genesis 4:15) And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. ~ I wonder if you have ever had the same question as I did when reading the Bible: Why did the Lord protect Cain even though Cain killed Abel? I used to wonder why the Lord was so unfair. Unless Abel had committed a crime worthy of death, then Cain would be innocent of killing Abel! Did Abel commit a crime worthy of death? Of course not. The most damning thing about Abel was that he had quarreled with a murderer! I always emphasize that the Bible is a book of great wisdom! The story of Cain and Abel is more than just a superficial story of murder. It has many lessons for us in life! First, why did Abel argue with Cain? Cain offered fruits and vegetables, and Abel offered livestock. Jehovah God was pleased with Abel's sacrifice, but Cain was dissatisfied. So, Cain and Abel argued, and Cain, enraged, killed Abel. Emotionally and logically, this was just a scene of jealousy story. What is there to learn from this? Cain was a petty person, so why did Abel provoke him? This wisdom teaches us: Never provoke a mean person. Is it worth it to be killed for a quick tongue? Of course not! Could Abel have avoided being killed? Of course he could! If Abel hadn't argued with Cain, wouldn't everything have ended! Cain wouldn't have sinned because of killing Abel! Perhaps some people think Abel is innocent, that Abel had been wrong for thousands of years, and that he didn't even know what sin he had committed until his death. Abel committed the "sin of the tongue"! We must always remember that the tongue is the root of all sin! Did Eve sin by believing the serpent's lies? The tongue can deceive and provoke strife!
You might ask: Why did Jehovah God protect Cain when Cain murdered Abel? When reading the Bible, you must read the entire story and not take it out of context! Jehovah God said: "I will punish Cain and drive him out of the land." What did Cain say? (Genesis 4:13) Cain said: "And Cain said unto the LORD, 'My punishment is greater than I can bear!'"~~ Did Cain try to defend himself like Eve did? Did Cain say: "I did nothing wrong. Jehovah God's punishment is too severe and unfair?" Did Cain ask Jehovah God for proof? No! Cain simply told Jehovah God: "Your punishment is too severe for me, and if I leave Your presence, I will surely be killed." This is why Jehovah God gave Cain a sign and a promise to protect him! The Bible always emphasizes "confession and repentance." Does the Bible only emphasize "confession and repentance" in the New Testament? Of course not! From the beginning of Genesis, the Bible teaches humanity to confess and repent! What do we see in Cain's story? Jehovah God is faithful! As long as we are willing to confess and repent, God will give us an opportunity and will protect those who are willing to confess and repent! We also know that Cain, apart from killing Abel, never killed anyone again! Reading the Bible requires a thorough understanding of its truth! The Bible is truly not the self-interpretation of modern pastors. The Bible is God's own word, and everything recorded in it contains the truth that Jehovah God wants to convey to us!!
The story of Cain and Abel teaches us two important truths: Why did Abel argue with Cain? Abel may have been guilty of self-righteousness! If we meet someone in our lives, would we argue to the death because of the sacrifice? Do you think Abel's death was worth it? Therefore, 1. Don't be self-righteous, and don't lose your life over trivial matters! 2. God is always faithful! As long as we are willing to confess and repent, God will surely forgive our sins and protect us from repeating them! Cain killed Abel, so why was he afraid of being killed? Cain could have continued to kill more people, but he sought the seal of Jehovah God, so that he would not commit murder again. This is the message of the Bible: God can forgive any sin, no matter how great it. As long as we are willing to confess and repent, and as long as we truly do not want to sin again, God is willing to help us—to stop sinning! We are all sinners! We all know that it is easier to sin than not to sin! This means that it is easy for us to sin, and it is indeed difficult for us to stop sinning! What does it mean when we truly confess and repent? It means that we stop sinning! When a person recognizes their sin and pleads with Jehovah God to stop sinning, God is truly willing to help us stop sinning! Did Cain stop sinning on his own? Of course not! Cain was able to stop sinning because he was willing to confess and repent, and he pleaded with Jehovah God to help him stop sinning! I too have many sinful tendencies, and in moments of weakness, I often have the urge to sin. However, every time I have the urge to sin, I pray and ask God to help me not to sin again! In reality, each of us knows our sins and weaknesses, and it's truly difficult to overcome these weaknesses on our own! Only by being willing to open up to God about our sins and asking Him to help us stop sinning can we break free from the "control of sin"! Cain's murder of Abel wasn't simply a story of brotherly jealousy. Rather, God is using this story to teach us the truth He wants to teach us! Regardless of what your pastors have taught you, the truth of the Bible cannot be changed or distorted. Many people say, "Jehovah God is old and confused, unable to distinguish right from wrong. How could He possibly protect a murderer like Cain?" I hope everyone understands the truth of the Bible, and even more so, I hope everyone understands that Jehovah God is not old and confused, and certainly would not protect a murderer! Those who say that Jehovah God is old and confused or that He protects murderers are misinterpreting the truth of the Bible! The truth of the Bible has not changed since Genesis! We cannot distort the truth of the Bible and use it as an excuse to abolish the death penalty, that completely goes against God's will! I hope everyone understands the "hidden truth" in the story of Cain and Abel! The Bible truly contains many "hidden truths"!!
